Here’s what we do. If your thing isn’t on the list, ask anyway. There’s a decent chance it falls under “other stuff” at the bottom.

Data Recovery

Lost files, dead drives, corrupted partitions, RAID arrays that have collectively given up. We work at the hardware and software level to get your data back. Available to anyone in Australia. SEQ locals can drop in, everyone else can mail their drive.

What we handle:

  • Hard drives – bad sectors, failed PCBs, undetected drives, corrupted file systems
  • SSDs and flash – deleted partitions, failed controllers, drives that won’t show up
  • RAID and NAS – manual reconstruction of failed RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 arrays
  • USB and memory cards – broken connectors, failed controllers, corrupted file systems

What we don’t do yet: head swaps and cleanroom work. If your case needs that we’ll say so upfront and point you somewhere that can actually help rather than waste your time.

Pricing: Flat $20 assessment fee to have a proper look. If we can get your data back, that rolls into the final quote. No hidden costs, no surprises.

Electronics Repair

If it’s got a PCB, a power supply, or a firmware problem, it’s probably worth sending through. I’ve worked on everything from GPS receivers and industrial computers to LC-MS systems and defence electronics. The short version is if it’s got a board in it and it’s stopped working, I’ll have a look.

Not the stuff a standard repair shop will touch. The equipment that’s too old, too specialised, or too weird for anyone else to bother with.

Assessment fee: $50. I’ll tell you what I found, what’s wrong, and what it would cost to fix before any work begins. If I can’t fix it you’ll still get a straight answer about what happened and where to go next. No black box, no “sorry it’s dead” with no explanation.

Most repairs quoted between $100-300 depending on parts and complexity. Industrial and commercial equipment quoted individually.

Legacy Systems and Modernisation

You know that industrial PC in the corner that runs on Windows XP and nobody is allowed to touch? Yeah that one. I can fix that.

A lot of businesses in mining, agriculture and manufacturing are one dead capacitor away from a really bad week. The machine works, everyone knows it’s a ticking clock, and nobody wants to be the one who has to deal with it when it finally gives up. I get it. But virtualising a working system is a lot less painful than trying to recover a dead one at 2am on a Sunday.

I can take legacy systems and port them to modern hardware or spin them up in a virtual machine. The software runs exactly as it did. Your process doesn’t change. You just stop holding your breath every time someone walks past it.

This works for:

  • Old industrial PCs running proprietary control software
  • Windows XP and earlier systems that can’t be updated without breaking something
  • Hardware that’s been discontinued and can’t be replaced like for like
  • Anything where “if this dies we’re in serious trouble” is a sentence you’ve actually said

Sooner is better than later on this stuff.

Pricing: Quoted per job after an initial chat. Most projects in this space run $300-800 depending on complexity. Industrial and mission-critical systems quoted individually.

PCB Design

Custom PCB design in KiCAD or Altium, from initial schematic through to manufacturing files. Can help with BOM sourcing and manufacturer liaison if you need it.

Pricing: Quoted per project. Simple boards from $200, more complex work quoted individually.

Websites and Digital Displays

Squarespace and Wix are overkill if all you need is a clean online presence that doesn’t embarrass you. I build fast, functional sites hosted on GitHub for free. You get total control over your data, it looks way better than a cookie cutter template, and you’re not paying a monthly subscription forever.

Got a shopfront? I also set up in-store digital displays. Product showcases, menus, promotional screens running on a TV. Done quickly, done cheaply, and you own everything.

Good fit for small businesses, tradies and retailers who just need something that works.

Pricing: Sites from $350 one-off. Displays from $150. Packages available.

Technical Consulting

Sometimes you just need a deeply technical person to sit down with you and work something out. If you’ve got a technical problem and you’re not sure who to call, call me.

I’ve worked across robotics, automation, networking, embedded systems, Linux and software. Past environments include mining, defence, robotics research and biomedical. If your industry is on that list we already speak your language. If it’s not, I’ve probably dealt with something similar anyway.

Works well for businesses that need real technical depth without the overhead of a full-time hire. One-off problems, second opinions, sanity checks, helping you figure out what you actually need before you spend money on it. All fair game.

Pricing: $120/hour or $450 for a half day. Happy to scope fixed-price projects where the work is well defined.

Other Stuff

Networking, Linux, automation scripts, custom cables, 3D printing, CAD work, Python scripting, AI tooling, drone operations (yes really, Sub 25kg commercial license, handy for inspections and surveying if that’s relevant to you). If it’s technical and it’s not listed here, ask anyway. There’s a reasonable chance I can help or at least point you somewhere useful.

Not sure if your problem fits any of this? Send it through anyway. Worst case I point you in the right direction.
